Here we go again! More snow is on the way but this time we are already scheduled to be out of school so that is a
plus. However, it will not help our track and golf programs who have been practicing in the gym and hallways so
far this season. Hopefully, we will get some warmer weather soon and we can get outside and enjoy these
activities where they are meant to be played.
We are wrapping up our winter activities and we have one member of the speech team who has qualified for
state. Kyra Anthony is going to take her speech to Kearney on March 17 to compete with the best in the state.
This is exciting for Kyra and for the speech team who has now qualified someone for state two years in a row.
Great job to our participants and coaches on a great season and good luck Kyra.
We have also finished up wrestling and basketball for the year. All three programs had many successes throughout
the season while also facing some challenges. I am seeing one big challenge for activities moving forward and that
is participation. I read somewhere that participation in girls’ basketball throughout the state is down by around
5,000 participants in the past five years and participation in boys’ basketball is down by about 1,000 participants
over the same time span. As I look at the numbers on our North Central teams, I see that reflected locally. Our
students are all busy with school, work, and balancing activities with a social life. The more we can support them
as a school and community, the better chance we have of students being involved.
