The conclusion of the fall activities marks the end of a number of exciting opportunities. Football season is over, cross country has wrapped up, volleyball has concluded, national FFA is complete, and one acts is now in the rearview mirror. Although it is sad to say these activities are all finished for the year, it is also exciting to see new opportunities present themselves.
Basketball and wrestling have started and this year marks the start of girls’ wrestling being provided as a separate sport for Rock County student athletes. Rock County has joined forces with Keya Paha and Ainsworth for girls’ wrestling for the 2023-2024 school year. Our girls will be participating as a part of the Ainsworth wrestling program this year and if we gain enough interest, we will look at forming a team within our North Central Cooperative for future years. It is exciting to know we have some girls interested in taking advantage of this opportunity and I cannot wait to see what they are capable of on the wrestling mat.
The other exciting part of the year we are in is the snowy season. It is time to start thinking about what we are going to do on those days when it is deemed unsafe to drive kids to school. While it is no fun having to make the decision of whether or not to call off school, I know it is a very important decision as it is potentially putting lives at risk on dangerous roads. I remind all parent/guardians that if they determine the roads are unsafe for travel but school has not been cancelled, please keep your child(ren) home and call the school to let us know. I try to travel a variety of roads to make the decisions but I do not get down every one of your roads in the county. It takes all of us to keep our kids as safe as possible when considering road conditions across the entire county and in some cases, neighboring counties.
