RC Superintendent Tidbits

We are in the dog days of winter and that means snow days. We have had to call a couple snow days already this year based on winter storms including snow, wind, extreme wind chills, and then a combination of all of those in a blizzard. This is just another reminder that you as parents are the final decision maker when it comes to the safety of your child(ren). If we have school and the roads are not safe, please keep your child(ren) home and call to let us know.
On the brighter side of things, ice fishing should be picking up. I would guess there is some pretty safe ice out there after the weekend we just endured. I really enjoy ice fishing as a gap time hobby between hunting and walleye fishing but last year, I did not get on the ice at all. I have set a lofty goal this year of going more than I did last year. If you know of any local ponds that need to have some fish taken out of them, please let me know.
The other positive of this time of year is the number of activities we have going on at the school. We had numerous students compete for the opportunity to represent Rock County Public Schools at the State FFA Convention and Carter Buell, Addie Wiiest, and Noah Seberger were all successful in their bids to get to state. Congratulations to those students and all of our FFA students for their achievements throughout the year. We also have speech, wrestling, and basketball going on right now. In my opinion, those are three of the most enjoyable activities to watch so this is a great time of year to be a fan. Good luck to all of our Rock County students in all of your events this winter.
I will close with a plea to all community members to come support the North Central golf program during the girls’ basketball game versus Stuart on Tuesday, January 23 in Bassett. We will be running the concession stand that night with hopes of earning money to be put towards some team jackets. As you know, spring in Nebraska is not always golfing weather but we golf anyways. Any and all support will be appreciated, especially on the cold mornings in April when we are on the course.
