We are in the middle of tax season which prompts some of the content for this article. I was recently in a school
budget and finance workshop and the property tax credit was discussed. This is a credit that all landowners can
apply for when doing taxes, however, it is not on the general tax forms. You as a landowner need to apply for this
separate, which can be done through your accountants who do your taxes. I would recommend you ask your
accountant whether you applied for this credit or not and then determine what you need to do in order to apply in
the future if you did not do so this year.
As you all notice when you are purchasing food for you and your family, food costs have increased. At the school,
we are noticing the same thing and it is affecting our food service budget. One thing families can do in Rock
County to help the school district with this problem is to fill out a free and reduced meal program application.
These can be obtained from our website or you can contact Brandi in order to get one. All information submitted
on the applications is confidential. The school district receives food service dollars for all free and reduced meals
served but we also receive Title I dollars based on our percentage of families who qualify for free or reduced
meals. We have seen our percentage decrease over the last few years and this is affecting our funding at Rock
County.
Dirt work is beginning this week on the high school project. As you enter the parking lot, please be cautious as
there may be machinery and workers in the entrance area of the parking lot over the next six months. While this
work is being completed, we are going to be asking students, staff, and community members to adjust some
parking and there will be times that the main entrance of the high school is not available. We will do our best to
communicate that to the public so we are not putting anyone in harms way.
